What does "Classic 2nd Edition" mean?

"Classic 2” is the re-engineered, technically advanced version of the original product "Classic 1st Edition", also known as "solarlog-home.de".

What is the difference between "Classic 2" and "Classic 1"?

Classic 1 was first marketed in 2006 and since that time has remained largely unchanged. Classic 2 is a new technical innovation and offers the same or improved functionality. The main differences are:
•    Modern graphic display
•    Server-based software with SQL database
•    User administration
•    Improved map display via Google Maps
•    Search and filter functions

Is "Classic 2" free?

The "Classic 2" WEB service is free up to a plant size of 30kWp. Larger plants are charged a fee, however they can test the product for 1 month free of charge. After the test month has expired the WEB service can be extended for one year at a time by making an online payment via PayPal.
The costs of "Classic 2" are on a sliding scale according to plant size:

Size Costs per
year

Costs per
month

1-30 kWp free
31-50 kWp 130,-€ (10,83€)
51-200 kWp 190,-€ (15,83€)
201-1499 kWp 1,20€/kWp

from 1500 kWp
1.800,-€ (150€)

All prices plus statutory VAT.

Why pay with PayPal?

We have made a conscious decision to use the payment service provider
PayPal as it guarantees simple, fast and safe payment via the internet.
If you already have a PayPal account you can pay as usual from your PayPal credit, by automatic debit transfer or by credit card.
Payment by automatic debit transfer or credit card is also possible without a PayPal account. During the payment process you will find a link that directs you to making payment without a PayPal account.

Are there any other options for monitoring my plant?

Yes, there are additional alternatives:

1. The Solar-Log™ WEB "Full Service" WEB service is the ideal package for plant owners which is completely installed and set up by the solar technologist and provided together with a maintenance contract. Information about this can be found on our homepage www.solar-log.com under
WEB Commercial.

2. The Solar-Log™ WEB "Self Made" WEB service is free of charge for all plant sizes. It offers technically skilled operators the possibility of displaying the plant on their own homepage. The HTML files required for display are available from the Download area on our homepage www.solar-log.com under
Homepagekit.
The plant owners themselves perform the monitoring and hosting of the website.

What is the difference between "Classic 2" and "Full Service"?

"Classic 2" is purely a hosting service, meaning that Solare Datensysteme provides the Web server and the software on it, including updates. The plant owner is responsible for the correct configuration of the system and the monitoring of the plant.
"Full Service" represents a complete service, comprising the Solar-Log™ installation, configuration and monitoring of the PV plant. This service is carried out by the authorised Solar-Log installation engineer, generally also in connection with a maintenance contract.

How does "Classic 2" work?

First you need to register online. During registration important data is requested, e.g. the serial number of the Solar-Log™ and the address of the location.
Then an email is sent to you in which you need to confirm a link, which in turn confirms the authenticity of the registration.
Now the registration needs to be checked by Solare Datensysteme GmbH; this is a manual process and therefore takes up to one workday. When activated, another email is sent to you, this time with all of the access data and brief instructions regarding what exactly must be configured.
At this stage it is important that a test transfer with the correct access data is performed by the Solar-Log™. Only then can another link within the email be confirmed. The registration is then complete.

Is my Solar-Log™ compatible with "Classic 2"?

Yes, in general all of the older Solar-Log™ 100/100e/400/400e, as well as the newer Solar-Log™ 200/500/800e/1000, are compatible with firmwares from January 2009 onwards.
To facilitate configuration, for the newer Solar-Log™ we recommend importing firmware 2.1.0 which is available from 19.07.2010.

I am already registered with Solarlog Home. Can I change to
"Classic 2"?

Yes, no problem. Simply re-register with the serial number and enter the new access data in the Solar-Log. The old daily values are all transferred. In a second step, the daily curves can also be transferred with a little expertise.
However, the Solar-Log cannot transfer information to the two portals together. Either one or the other.

Instead of a graphic I am getting an empty page or an error report, what does this mean?

The graphic is shown as a so-called SVG graphic, which is a new technology used to display web graphics. Not all web browsers are compatible with it, and only new versions have this capability. The following web browsers are compatible:
•    Mozilla Firefox (3.x)
•    Opera (10.x)
•    Google Chrome
•    Safari (4.x)
•    Internet Explorer (version 6/7/8 32bit with SVG plug-in from Adobe - available free of charge)
Please perform an update of your browser for this purpose.
In addition, the java script function must be switched on.

Is it possible to adjust a plant schematic?

Yes, this is easy to do. Log in using your access data and call up the configuration page. From here you can upload a plant schematic in JPG format at any time.

How can I activate the automatic data back-up function?

You need to activate the external data back-up function in the Solar-Log in the "Config/Intern/Back-up" web dialogue. Enter the FTP access data.
Every Sunday night the "Classic 2" WEB server will then collect and compress the data back-up and forward it to your email account.

Can I use the Solar-Log to send SMS messages?

In principle you can, but not directly via the "Solar-Log WEB Classic 2". If you want to active the sending of an SMS there are two possibilities:

1.    Set up an email to SMS gateway via your email provider. Because from a technical point of view the "SMS" is like a short email, all email providers offer the option of diverting emails to a mobile phone, sometimes even free of charge. Your network operator can provide further information.

2.    If you use a GPRS modem (Solar-Log800e/1000) as an internet connection, from firmware 2.1.0 onwards you can also send SMS directly via the modem. The costs then accrue directly on the SIM card in the modem. You can activate this function in the network settings.

Why are there so many different services?

Solare Datensysteme attempts to satisfy all of the requirements of the market and all plant sizes. From the customisable homepage that is set up by technology enthusiasts themselves on their own page ("self made"), to a fully automatic service for which you are responsible ("Classic 2"), and a "Full Service" offered by your own solar technician that allows a comprehensive all-round maintenance contract.

What happens if I upgrade my plant?

If the plant was less than 30 kWp in size when it was first registered but exceeds the 30 kWp threshold after it has been upgraded, an email is sent automatically. This refers to the conditions of commercial use, and you then have 1 month to pay the annual usage fee.
If a 30kWp plus usage has already been paid for the plant, the new plant size (e.g. 85 kWp) is recalculated only after the period of usage has expired.
